LIGITA CAUNE was born in Viesīte, Latvia on 30 May 1950. Caune graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia, Faculty of Interior Design and has designed many social and private interiors. Caune works with graphic design (logotypes, company style and advertising), book design and stained glass design, etc. Caune has been a member of the Artists Union of Latvia since 1987.

Caune is actively involved in easel-painting. Her artistic activities are largely related to the association Sēlijas palete (Pallet of Selonia), of which she is also the founder and manager. Nature has been the cradle for most of Ligita Caune’s paintings. She has organised Selonia plein-air painting sessions for many years. Caune enjoys painting outdoors and has participated in many outdoor painting sessions in Latvia and abroad. She has also participated in both republican and group exhibitions. She is the organiser of frequent one-man exhibitions in Latvia and abroad (Austria, Finland, Italy, Denmark and Lithuania).

Ligita Caune is the author of the altar painting titled “Faith. Hope. Love” in Viesīte Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Caune’s works are found in private collections in such countries as Latvia, Russia, Finland, Israel, Denmark, Austria, Italy, Australia and Canada.

“Painting is my worship service. It is my expression of love for Latvia’s nature. Nature holds everything – sadness, delight, joy and disappointment, even the presence of an angel. Nature makes one sense a deeper meaning of things. When you confide in nature, you can feel eternity and sense the way to revelation.” (Ligita Caune)

Ligita Caune’s paintings prove that she is a lyricist and idealist. She is especially sensitive in capturing reflections of water, motives of trees and foggy meadows. She is also skilled at drawing. This is demonstrated by several drawing exhibitions, in which she features artistic and inventive travel impressions in felt pen technique.
